Tunnell Camp number one finished. Everybody was happy with their tunnell camp and all made loads of progress, from those who had never tried it before , never jumped before , to those coming for some more advanced coaching.

Andy Guler who is our formation skydiving director lead this camp with Dean Smith ( more about that later ) . He is pictured here taking one of our AFF students for next Jan through their paces in the tunnell.

Here is another tunnel only flyer..Vivienne wanted to try it indoors first and wil do her AFF course with us next year.

Andy takes Rachel Wenham through her paces on a more Advanced programme . Rachel did her AFF course with us last month.

Andy Guler points to a picture of Andy Gregory ..how did a picture of Andy G end up on the wall of the Bedford Tunnell!

To finish up the tunnel news everybody in the FFU is delighted to have Dean Smith join our staff part time. Dean trained with us this August and will be working closely with Andy Guler on the cordination of future camps in the UK. When you enquire with us for tunnell camp training it will be Dean taking your call!

Group coaching in the Tunell ? No bother to Andy , he has 300 hours plus of tunnell time alone and then of course several thousand skydives and a serious amount of World Competition … your in good hands !

Continuation Courses news:

Are you a Firebird ? Or maybe your a classic , or then again perhaps your a GTI or an S3 ?

Confused ? Dont be. We have recieved five new birdman suits bringing our line up to eight. Small , medium or large ? No problemo.

Now you can take our BirdMan Wingsuit course and test fly different models . If you want to have your own suit we have the Bird man agency and know how to measure you for a proper fit.

Will you beat the first flight record of 86 seconds in ” freefall ” ?

.

Sponsored Team 2006:

Building on the success of our 2005 sponsorship programme where profits from our school are invested in the sport for the benefit of regular jumpers we will be sponsoring a junior four four way team.

The rules are simple , you must be a recently graduated AFF or static line student to take part. Bearing in mind the new BPA rules on category we are not able to say what level you will compete at.

Last year we took three newly qualified skydivers and trained them in four way. They of course were also quite dedicated to the training themselves , we gave them a helping hand.. They went on to become British Junior Category winners
( Mike Worthington, Maxine Tate and Victoria Scargill ).

To be considered for a spot you need to send your details to : david at freefalluni.co.uk

Details required on your application.

1. Name 2. Number of jumps 3. How recently you qualified AFF and FS1.

You must also answer these three questions. We encourage originality but there are no extra marks.. The most interesting ( within limits 🙂 answers will be published.

1. Skydivers enjoy an active nightlife because …

2. What is the name of our Favourite bar in Aranjuez ? ( Hint its where the college students hang out )

3. Id like to be a member of the Freefall Uni Sponsored team because…

Web matters

We are moving to www.freefalluni.co.uk this is to facilitate the growth of the site. Our old email address´and URL will work fine , but you will notice us contacting you from the new domain..dont worry its still us.

Plaguirism

Skydive Lillo continue to fill their website with photos / student comments copied and pasted from this website and others ( hence the more active watermarking ). Typical examples include student comments and many of the pictures of our students from the archive. An entire section of content from our articles section has been ripped off also.. guys..nice. So heres a question for you, if these guys cant respect those around them, what respect will they have for you ?

Ok Back to the skydiving..upcoming events.

Static line progression weekend.

Are you on the static line ( RAPS ) system and frustrated with your speed of progression ? Then why not come down to the Freefall Uni. Ocaña on the weekend of the 4th of Feb ?

We will be joined by instructors and students from our partner dropzones in the UK so it should be a fantastic weekend. Call us on 0207 0600 174 for more information.

Our next one is week long from the 22nd to the 28th of Feb. Teams booked in include Neva from Germany ( this team has a cumulative total of 25000 jumps so they should be interesting to both watch and train with if your in the intermediate or senior categories) .

Our own staff will be on hand to coach beginners so you can fly with the coaches who will train you , if for example you are thinking about coming on one of our aff courses.

New Staff member

17th Jan 2006

Joining us is Joe Aldridge
from the UK and Damien Duffy from the UK. They also will be taking our accelerated freefall course

Welcome to Maria Richardson from Ireland who joins us from Ireland to learn to skydive. Maria is a pilot and finally decided it was time to start jumping out of planes.

Welcome also to a new member of the team, Aimee Herrick who joins us in client care. Aimee trained as an AFF student here last November and will be based in our Aranjuez office. If you select the private transfers option it is likely Aimee who will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and drop you home in the evening.

We are also joined by Martin Ogden , Richard McConnell and John Slaney who are here for a variety of our continuation courses from freefly to birdman for beginners.

.

17th Jan 2006

Adios Louis! Louis is off to the BPA AGM and will have a stand there if you wish to ask him any questions about course in the UK or abroad. Louis will also be presented with his certificate for the new BPA rating. Louis is the first such coach in Spain and of course can issue the BPA FF1 and FF2 ratings.

Joining us recently for a weeks holiday is Brian Skally from the Irelands unofficial capital , Cork. Brian has been working on his A license having trained with the Freefall University under the instruction of doctor Ulli, one of our full time staff.

Brian has learned to pack with us, completing the test and packing his own chute. Its formation skydiving next.

Tim is back from Brazil after his honeymoon and is taking Joe through his course. Joe is doing great and will be finished tommorrow and skydiving solo.

Martin has completed his first flight in a Firebird and has broken and now holds the school record for longest first flight. 90 seconds in freefal. Well done Martin!

Maria is jumping with one jump master now and will finish her course tommorrow. Maria took a day out to visit Madrid , catching the train from Aranjuez. 30 minutes later she was in the heart of the city and ready to choose from a wide range of activities.

Maria is doing really well on the course and has made the transition from flying planes to jumping from them seem effortless ( you would be surprised at the amount of pilots who ” worry ” about us…

Did the wind change direction ? Richard McConnel who recently learned the sit fly position with Louis seems stuck in it now..

Richard and the gang hes down with seem to have taken well to the Aranjuez style of living:

Favourite Bar : ” Cheers ” .. told you Richard..

Richard spent the night celebrating as he graduated his training program with Louis and gained his BPA FF1 qualification and can now freefly with other people.

.

Jan 19th 2005

Are you ready to skydiveBucket loads happening today. More birdman jumps and more freefly jumps.

The key to a good formation skydive is
a good contact with your partner from the exit. Here Paula and Peter take a moment in the door to slow things down and lock “into” each other before scarpering out the door for a freefly jump.

Here you can see them just a moment after leaving the plane. Clear blue skies are the playground and they still hold the eye contact. On this dive Paula exited in sit and Peter has already started his rotation into head down.

Moments later Martin videos Richard as he sets of for one of the practive dives in his Birdman program. Tommorrow he too will have his ” first flight”.

The tucked postion that Richard is using is designed to immitate the position you will use when exiting with your wings ” deflated “.

Next up is Damien and Ulli who were getting ready for their level seven jump.

Damien was one of our graduates today on the aff beginners course.

I left this photo uncropped as I like it. Ulli is on the camera strut ” waiting ” for Damien to check out with him for the Dive. Damien however wants to make sure i get a nice shot so takes his time looking back in at me 🙂

Damien went on to do a smahing level seven and is no now skydiving solo.

You can see him looking back at the plane as he rolls out in an unstable position , interestingly this is one of the dives students look on back on the most commenting on the thrill and enjoyment. Having spent the course learning about stability the last thing we do is have you go unstable .. well not the last. Five seconds ( 600ft ) later Damien was solid as a rock and doing 360 degree turns to beat the band.

You have done well my son ! Ullis AFF teacher , who thaught Ulli AFF has just arrived from Germany to spend some time jumping with us whilst on holiday. He is rather excited having been out to the Maldives recently. He would like to organise an event with us , skydiving in the Maldives next Winter, sounds like a lot of fun so we will publish details as soon as we have them.

Damien on an AFF course skydive over Ocana madrid SpainHere is Damien on one of his skydives.

Jan 20st

Joe Aldgridge Completes his accelerated Freefall cCourse in SpainWell done Joe , You are the best ! Our most recent graduate Joe Aldridge finished in style this morning. He was working with Tim and will spend the next few days jumping solo.

El Dude !

.

Jan 21st 2006

Welcome to Daniel Hold from London who joins us to learn to skydive and will be with us for the next ten days. Daniel is pictured here having completed his ground school getting ready for his AFF level one.

Daniel Went on to do four skydives today and did just fantastic both with the freefall and canopy control.

Are you an outgoing skydiver ? Are you a fit charismatic individual with time to travel ? We have been contacted by the BBC looking for such persons and whilst we have recommended some of our former graduates for a new show they are currently developing, we need more people. You must be over 18 to take part and be in a position to take some time off from your work.

If you want more information please contact is at sam @freefalluniversity.co.uk
.

Jan 22nd 2005

A nice day at the Uni, Danny Hold is finished his aff course and is now skydiving solo.

We have three full time pilots , here is Edward on one load flying the plane.

And here he is at the rear getting ready to do a freefly jump with Nasco a regular jumper at the club. Edward has over 1000 skydives and 500 hours flying the porter and is a fully qualified commercial pilot.

Maria has now finished her consol jumps and is experiement with all manner of exits. Here you see here practing her sit fly exit. Very nice balance indeed.

Here she is back on her belly later on the skydive. Maria is a qualified pilot and now a qualified skydiver also.

Maria has done six solos today.

.

Here is a photo of Danny Hold . Here you can see him give the thumbs up to his instructor on the level seven. He went on today to complete six solos.

Joe is also rocking on today and did six solos, he has another day of jumping tommorrow before heading home.

.

26th Jan 2006

Welcome to David Wallis who is from the UK but works overseas quite a bit. David is well taken with skydiving and has already looked at a number of houses in the region as he is considering moving here. David joined us with no previous experience and is doing great.

Its been another action packed day at the Uni and the Porter was up and down all day with loads of happy skydivers. We are well settled into the new year now and for all those of you who are booked over the next few weeks ( there are a lot of you 🙂 were looking forward to making sure you have the holiday of a lifetime. We will have six of our main instructors in action leaving uniquely positioned to cater for larger groups .. so keep marking the days of your calender..

We are joined by Jean, an Air Hostess with British Airways who trained with us mid last year and who now has over 35 skydives ..welcome aboard our flights with a different destination!

David went on to do four levels today ( having started yesterday ) and will finish his aff course and begin skydiving solo tomorrow.

AS usual the day finished with Edward taking the porter for a fly past.

.

28th Jan 2006

Congratulations to David Wallis who has completed his AFF course with us. He has now started to skydive solo.

David exited the plane unstable and got stable and completed his track and turns very quickly.

As David had been doing really well he planned a small FS dive with his insrtuctor for his level seven. He completed a number of points with has AFF Instructor before deploying at 4,500ft.

30th Jan 2006

A day of more solos for David , here you see him exiting in an unstable position.

Superman Knee flyer ? No here David is just about to start a loop.

.

Feb 2006

Welcome to the Freefall University just south of Madrid. Were having a ton of fun on our dropzone. The weather is great, the beer is cold and the skydiving just south of Madrid in Spain is top drawer.

1st Feb 2006:

Luci Boella is back with the team! Luci was the second AFF instructor in the school and many of you who trained with us will know her as she has 200 graduations over her time for the Freefall University. More recently she took some time out to pursue her advanced ratings. She is now an AFF instructor Evaluator and a coach course director. From early this month onwards Luci will manage our AFF instructors training programme part time, but will spending must of her time teaching AFF. Luci will be with us full time. Welcome back Luci.

Thinking of buying kit? Make sure you talk to us about our gear programme. If you are happy to have the School Crest on your rig you will recieve a substantial discount on the cost. Call or email us and one of our riggers will be happy to have a chat with you further about the programme.

We are now also working on our expansion programme for the dropzone. We have installed four new modules to house our growing departments to make sure you are trained in comfort and have more recreation space. We have also finalized the contract with a building company to build the second bar/ cafe for the DZ which will overlook the landing area.

.

3rd February 2006

Ok the first of our guests for the next week have arrived. Welcome to Billy Gibbons who was with us only last month and who comes back for a weeks freefly coaching with Louis.

Billy trained with the FFU early in 2005 and now has 150 jumps. He has had several holidays with us and this is his second this year in Ocaña.

Wasting no time , we got straight into it and Billy was soon up in the air for his first coached dive. Billy is quite close to achieving his BPA FF1 qualification. We are the only dropzone in Madrid who can issue this qualification and the only school in Spain to have recieved the new BPA coaches rating certification.

.

4th Feb 2006

Louis and Billy are up and down like yo yos today completing seven skydives together. Billy is just about to get his FF1 rating and each video we see in the debriefing room Billy is just getting better and better..

Welcome to Chris from London and Katie who is here to complete the AFF beginners course.

Welcome also to the first group of fun jumpers and static line students coming from London also. They will spend the next week doing varied jumps , some fun jumping, some taking coaching and some who will progress on the RAPS system. We have a BPA RAPS instructor onsite to help them along 🙂

Aimee has joined us now and we wish her every success in her position and also with her events company ” skydiving in the Sun “.

In the background you can see Paula in one of the admin offices working away. Paula is our BASE and Birdman coach.
.

5th Feb 2006.

Meanwhile another AFF student just arrived James from North London is picture here on his way to the aircarft for AFF level one. James went on to complete two levels having done his ground school this morning.

Welcome to the “Lost boys” ! Ben Woods, Matt Powell ,Stephen Jefferson and Richard Houghton are a group of friends from the North of England who here to learn to skydive with us. They had a good night in Madrid last night and made it to the dropzone today, we will get into ground school tommorrow :¨) Our holidays are ideal for groups.

Welcome back to Paul Wainright who trained with us last month up to level six. Paul is here for the rest of the week and his sister ( who I guess caught the ” bug ” from Paul ) will be joining us later in the week to do the AFF course also.

Meanwhile Kate and Ulli are doing just great. Kate arrived yesterday and did her ground school and her first two levels and is doing fab!

.

6th Feb 2006

Kate is almost there, after her second day here she has only her level seven to go and will do that in the morning with Tim. Shes pictured here tellling Billy how she started a loop in freefall.

James from London cracked on the max after starting back at this afternoon and is on level five with doctor Ulli in the morning.

Also finishing in style today is Paul Wainright who over a few days completed AFF level one to six with us earlier in the year. Paul commented that his first solo was unforgettable , in particular respect of the time he had in freefall. Were edging up to14K now ( but dont generally go past that ). Did you know ??? : That it takes 12 seconds to fall the first thousand feet as you accelerate to ” terminal velocity” and then 4 – 5 seconds for each thousand feet fter that.

Paul went on to do five solos today and will now do his BPA CH1 canopy handling course.

Billy Gibbons Freefall University Graduate from last year now with 150 jumps is officially a freeflier and qualified to do so with other people. Billy did his course with Louis Harwood from avalore freefly.

Well done Billy , now you have to start working in your BPA FF2 which Louis can also issue.. look forward to seeing the graduation video. Billy decided to do a ” practive dive ” for the small freefall exam and practiced so well Louis told him he had passed that there was no need to do another jump. Billy however went full on and started to work on more advanced skills with Louis.

Well done to John Walters on achieving his 15″ delay on the BPA raps programme.

We have a fast turn around dz even mid week which is well suited to static line progression. We feel this is one of our defining factors ..we gaurantee flight midweek and plenty of it! This means very simply you will get the jumps you want , even Monday to Wednesday as we have ” enough going on to fly the plane”.

Torin, a madrid jumper and graduate of our sister school for Spanish students ( Aero Libre which means roughly ” Freedom Air ” ) dropped in to take advantage of the weather and mid week jumping. He trained last year with Christian and now has over 100 jumps.

“Boarding call ..boarding call pilatus thirteen” … meet Sonia . Its quite difficult to describe the cutest spanish English , but Sonia will have you scurrying to the boarding area to catch the ” Freefall Express ” .

Meet Chris Buse . John popped down from the UK for a few days jumping ( relative worker ) and is lapping up the Spanish weather.

Did you know ??

The amount you shit yourself before a jump squared is equal to the rush of adrenaline you feel when you pull it off ? Why else would we do it ? Thats what Paul figured out when he completed his unstable exit on the RAPS system today. Paul is down from a group from London Parachute School – the closest dz to london.

Stephan who did his ground school this morning got into the air this evening for his first jump. What a stormer, one legs out signal and that was it! Perfect canopy control and a tippy toe landing.. level two plus tommorrow. Well done and welcome to the sport of skydiving!

He is part of a group from a London based film company so were making sure they have lots of footage to walk away with so they make up their own holiday DVD. We do give all our student DVD´s but, well , were professional skydivers and these guys probably have nicer toys to edit on..

As for the rest of the gang , they all did level one today also and with an instructor each they will be finished in no time at all. Well keep you posted.

Have to admit the buzz was electric as the porter fired up to take the three guys on their level ones to altitude. There was a mixture of anxiety in the air aswell as excitement ,,mix that with turbines starting , the smell of Jet – A1 ..fantastic .. brings back memories of my own first jump in the IPC.

So folks stay tuned , same bat time , same bat channell.
.

Tuesday 7th Feb 2006.

Well done Katie ! Level seven finished and the first few solos already!

Thanks to one student, one instructor ( a promise we actually deliver ) and the glorious weather Katie finished in three days from start of ground school to qualification.

Paul is now working on his all round skills following our consolidation jump programme , so far he has done five solos today.

Ben Woods is now on level four having started yesterday morning. he is training with Andy from Bristol.

Matthew Powell is now on level four also and is getting right through it with Tim Boyd from London who is his main instructor.

Meanwhile people are welcome to demo our Firebirds if they already own suits but havent had the chance to fly the latest generation suit !

Here is a photo of Matthew getting ready to do his Level five which is the first solo exit of the aff courses ( you jump from the plane without your instructor holding onto you but he stays really close to watch ).

..And they are gone. Tim is slightly above Matthew for the best video angle. Tim like all our instructors wears an ” instructor cam ” ..this footage forms part of your DVD of your course.

A growing freefly scene in Ocaña.. Nasco and Peter exit the Porter for another freefly jump. The Freefall University is a training dropzone..even midweek you will have no bother finding a jump partner to practice your skills with between jumps. Thier is a broad range of talents on the DZ and many of our ( non instructional )staff will be happy to jump with you if you ask.

Another exit shot! Here is Doctor Ulli exiting with Richard for his level six.

Mr. Carpenter what an unexpected pleasure .. feel free to drop in any time! Mike is from the ” famous british freefly team “… Freefly Euphoria..

.

.

Wed 8th April

Well done to James Mundy who graduated his AFF courses and is now skydiving solo. Also graduating last night was Mathew Powell ,Richard Houghton and Ben Woods.

Our cameramen are lovin it! And they are getting some great shots too. Paul Wainright took one up to get some piccies of a solo jump ( hes done all his consolidation jumps now in a day and a half ). Here are three shots from the skydive.

Is the exit the best part ?

Terminal Velocity …you can barely hear yourself scream …yet its not loud…its more that your voice is carried away by the wind passing.

Time for a backloop … the more you go on , the more you will try .. in comfort.

Well done Paul!

So another great day at the Uni with many more to come. We are recieving emails from people booked on our courses over the next few weeks… not long to go for some of you! Kieron White ,,especially thanks for your message. There are five other budding skydivers coming your week, so no ..you wont party alone 🙂

Thursday 9th Feb 2006

Well done to Stephan Jefferson who finished his AFF course in style!

Here Stephan and Ulli exchange thumbs up on the level seven . Smashing course Stephan well done !

Welcome to Penelope Strickland from New Zealand who joins us for a weeks holiday to learn to skydive. Penelope arrived in last night , but not jet lagged at all she was in ground school this morning and has already completed her first level of AFF.

.

Saturday 11th of February.

The lost boys ( Northern Contingent ) spent their last days jumping here today doing five jumps each. They did an average of 25 jumps each during their week with us. A nice ambience , but twinged with sadness as they go back to work on Monday. They are taking a Saturday night out in Madrid and given Madrid nights out wont be in shape for jumping tomorrow. Here Richard gets ready for one last jump.

Jet Lag got the better of Penelope who did two jumps and is on level four next tommorrow morning.

We are joined by Louise Wainright from the UK who initially came to do our skydiving introduction course , but got bitten by the bug and went onto complete here AFF level two this evening . All this after a 1-1 ground school this morning. She will decide overnight wether to go all out and finish the course tommorrow before heading home on Monday or come back in a few weeks to have more time 🙂

Scotty and Louis were taking it handy today. Louis is booked for the next few weeks with a few groups coming for freefly coaching and fun jumping in general. If your looking for your FF1 or FF2 then Louis is your man.

The Staff like to jump together now and again ..a nice tracking dive on the sunset load.

Meanwhile Stephan decided what he would like written on his graduation quote.

.
So folks stay tuned to the action .. the Ocaña buzz is growing and we are all enjoying what we are doing 🙂

Here is James heading off for his first solo skydive. Congratulations James and welcome to the sport of skydiving. In the background you can see Luci heading towards the boarding area with Trevor who is now on level seven.

They are pictured here getting ready to head of on a four wy freefly dive. Thank you for making us your dropzone in Spain, we hope you have a great time with us.

Sylvan its been emotional ! Well done. Here is Sylvan bringing over the mandatory case of beer.. lets introduce you to ” beer rules”..when you graduate you have to buy your fellow skydivers and insrtuctors beer. A case of 24 should just about go around and at Spanish prices aint to bad on the pocket either!

Welcome also to Joanna Midleton and Dean Thorpe who are here to begin the road to freefly with Louis.

Also here for her third visit in as many months is Amelia Walters who gained her BPA FF1 qualification with the help of full time/ permanent coach , Louis Harwood ( Ola Tronko puedo que tien es suerte en otro sitio..puedo…)

Smiles all round , Joanna had a mal but , look , locate , peel punch pull.. no bother chica! Here Edu reminds her of the beer rules and reckons he should be the second to take a bottle from the case as the main landed right on the X.. A short time later Jo´s gear was repacked and ready for action.

Welcome to the guys who join us for a skydiving holiday. They will spend their time Freefly Team training and whilst not taking coaching will work under the watchful and helpful eye of Louis H. They do most of their jumping in the UK and occassionally Empuria but decided to try another dz in Spain for a change. We hope you like how we look after you and come back soon.

Congratulations to Thomas Urbanksi who finished his AFF course with us in spectacular fashion. A text book course under the instruction of Andy Gregory. Well done..CH1 next.

First Solo!

Congratualtaions also to Lee Armstrong who also completed his aff course with us, fantastic course and enjoy your solo skydiving!

Here is a pictures from his level seven skydive. The instructor remains close on the jump but generally out of view untill the ” routine is complete ” . Once the looping, turns and track are complete your instructor will fly close to you so you can celebrate with him or her in freefall.

Here Pete the camera man for the dive flys into the instructor to take a close up before both head of to their own corner of the sky to open their parachutes. You can see the DZ below. This photo was taken from 4000ft and the landing area still looks huge!

Congratulations to Christine who completed her course. She said to us when half way through the course ” I like how this makes me feel ” . She is seen here showing her video to the others in one of our video rooms. ( We have three video cabins now all decked with DVD recorders and are about to add another in the rec room being installed beside the school )

Back to the Freefly heres a photo from one of Louis´Dives .. here is Dean Thorpe on a dive with Louis.. looks nice in sit ..no ?

Saturday 25th Feb 2006

Welcome to John Callaghan who joins us to learn to skydive. He will train with Luci Boella. He is pictured here on the climb with her and Carlos who will be his secondary instructor.

And of they go.. Carlos put that away !

Here Carlos gives John the Thumbs up in the ” circle of awareness ” Smashing body position John.

John did a perfect level one skydive having never been in freefall before. He did the circle of awareness , practice pulls ..then..

he spots the cameraman on the dive and cracks a massive smile… sweet!

Welcome also to Justin Reid who joins us to learn to skydive. Justin will spend hte next ten days with us and hopes to accomplish 30-40 jumps in his time with us. He is pictured here just after his level one.. loooking pretty happy ..ah adrenalin..aint it wonderful..

Monday 27th of Feb 2005
Gorgeous blue skies , perfect for skydiving ! We did 18 loads odd today at the Uni and had a blast. Here is Christine and Thomas who just landed of another solo skydive. Thomas is almost finished his CH1 and Christine has already decided to come back in a few weeks time for some more jumping.

Here is a pciture of Christine about to exit at 13,5k. Christine did four solo jumps today.

Smashing course Justin! Well done. Justin did the course in two days and is now skydiivng solo. Justin was a great student and such a pleasure for us to teach. Even though the dropzone is busy , its easy enough for us to get you through the course in no time at all due to wealth of talent we have waiting to teach you.

Justin will spend the next 8 days doing solos, BPA CH1 and perhaps the BPA FS1 course.

Meanwhile the freefliers are racking up the jumps and did 6 four ways today to include some local jumpers who popped down from Madrid to share da fun

Thomas did about six jumps today and had a cameraman along on one of them. Hes lovin it!

Sylvan is all but finished his consolidation jumps and CH1 and will the do the BPA FS1 course with British gold medalist Luci Boella.

Sylvan has also purchased a hundred jump tickets to keep him going for a while…

Well done also to Michael Woodward who finished his AFF course today with Andy Gregory.. enjoy your solo skydiving !

Meanwhile john Callaghan has reached level six with Luci and should finish his course tommorrow.

Welcome onboard to Juan Ventura . Juan joins us to manage our Spanish AFF school and may be your secondary instructor ( the guy who helps out your tutor on your first three levels ). Juan is formerly of Empuria Brava , has in excess of 18,000 skydives broken down as follows: 5000 AFF , 5000 Tandems , 2000 Skysurf and 2000 4way jumps.

Juan we hope you enjoy your work with us here in the Freefall Uni Ocaña.
Given you were the AFF Instructor to those of us who trained many years ago in Empuria it is a privellige to have you work with us.

28th Feb 2006

A sweet day at the “Freefall University” Ocana. We have said goodbye to some people, but not for long , most have already booked for a second skydiving holiday with us in March. Some of the Freeflier from the UK are still here. Here is Amelia getting ready to jump with Edward the pilot ( his day off flying ) and Roberto , a local jumper from Madrid.

Welcome back to David Wallis who joins us for a few days skydiving. David trained with us and completed his CAT10 ( AFF courses + 10 solos + ch1 ) earlier in the year.

David will do a few solos and then get stuck into the BPA FS1 formation skydiving course.

Today the staff play. All our students are graduated and jumping solo so its fun time untill our new students come tommorrow.

A growing passtime for us is to fly with the school bird man suits. We also have a new member in da ” flock ” ..welcome to Luci Boella who is also learning a new skill. She did our Birdman course today and did her first flight this afternoon.

Gus Reid did his AFF course with us in two days and has finished his consolidation jumps and level eight on day three. Here you can see him heading off on his 5 second delay. Nice body position just before going for the pull.

Clear Blue Skies – Duncan Aspinall comes in for a tippy toe landing under his Katana.

And here is Luci doing really well flying a “firebird”. The guys are now taking the plane two or three miles away from the dropzone and flying back. Flight by flight they are going further away..

Congratulations to Dean Thorpe who achieved his BPA FF1 with Louis. Dean had a smashing dive.. well done . Enjoy freeflying with others ( wink ).

March News 2006

Welcome to the March news bulletin page for Freefall University Madrid.
Here you can see details of our activity as each of our guests undertakes training with our experienced instructors on a one to one basis.

Friday 3rd March
Welcome to Malcolm O Neill who joins us to learn to skydive. Here he is seated in one of our training rooms with Luci during a multimedia presentation.

All our students do their ground school in comfortable dropzone surroundings with an AFF Instructor, and in fact with the same AFF Instructor who will train them in freefall. Students find such a system most comfortable as they get to know and trust them

Birds of a feather flock together..

Here Richard McConell gets ready to do a coaching dive with Paula his personal trainer for the week in the Birdman discipline. Richard is a returning guest and will spend his time perfecting his birdman skills and freefly coaching with Louis. He wil be working on his FF1 qualification.

Nasco a jumper from the local area also popped in for some head down coaching.

This photo was taken as he and his coach descend at 200 miles per hour.

Well done to Gus Reid. He started learning to skydive last Sunday , Qualified to go Solo on Monday morning and has by the end of Today ( Wednesday ) has made 17 skydives.. Theres no stopping him , and no hanging around due to low cloud, fog or because your instructor is training somebody else.

.

Saturday 3rd March Morning

Richard has been extending his ” time of flight ” load by load today. Trying to get more and more time out of the wingsuit. He has been learning more and more advanced tecniques to achieve longer skydives.

Welcome also to Damien Walsh from Glasgow who is here to do some fun jumping and take advantage of the Spanish sunshine.

Damien is a keen freeflier and is will spend his time jumping with the growing contingent of jumpers from Madrid taking advantage of our mid week flights to escape the office. ( read sickies 🙂

Meanwhile Neil Malcolm is doing great with Luci and has completed already today four skydives with Level five next. Not bad since he only arrived yesterday morning.

He is pictured here in the boarding area getting ready for his level three doing one last visualisation before taking the ride to 13.5k.

.

Saturday 3rd March Afternoon

When it comes to choosing the type of training you want , you will feel like a kid in a sweetshop, Richard decided to switch to some freefly with Louis. Here they head of on a coached dive.

David Wallis has done 15 skydives since arriving with us and is pictured here exiting the porter.

Here is a nice photo of Roberto Sanchez heading off ” head down ” on a solo skydive.

Gus Just aint stopping , here he is getting ready for another one.

How about a backloop… Justin is finished his consolidation jumps now.

Clear skies meant that Richard kept at it also and he decided to do five coached jumps with Louis this afternoon and as you can ses sit is no problem for him now .

All of to Cheers … We look forward to tommorrows new guests , some new to skydiving and others who are coming to jump hard…

.

Sunday 4th March 2006

Joining us also is Anton Conlon a barrister from the UK who will learn to skydive with us . He is picutured here in training room number 3 with his personal instructor Ulli.

Welcome back to Danny Hold. Danny completed his A license with us in November and is back with us to some more jumping and perhaps the FS1 course.

Welcome to Kerry Sykes who joined us yesterday to do an AFF course. Kerry did his ground school with Andy Gregory and has already completed three levels of the AFF course.

Monday 5th 2006

Here is Anton with Ulli getting ready for level three.

Tuesday 6th 2006

20 degrees in Madrid and by 5pm we had all done five or six jumps each. Its getting warmer now ( it climbs towards a pleasant 30 degrees in the summer now ) We were also quite tired as everybody had been out in Cheers last night , Spanish Staff, English Staff and all the students to Celebrate Louis Birthday.

Richard missed his plane home so will be with us untill Thursday before heading to Perris Valley. He has already booked in with is for some more jumping next month.

Richard i want your job mate… you dont seem to do any work :O)

Pete Clarke also joined us for his second coaching session this year and already has his third booked at the end of the month. Pete has 88 jumps now and is working on his Freefly FF2 with Loiuis.

Whats Luci up to ?

Danny you dude! Danny couldnt remember how many jumps he packed in today and had to check with the manifest when filling in his log book.

Last one down is a rotten egg..

Edward was in a hurry to get to the ground to pick up his next load of skydivers.. At this point Danny is at Terminal velocity but Edward is determined to beat him down..

So How will you exit for your graduation jump ? Here Kerry decided on a dive exit…

Supervised by his Instructor Andy G. Did you know that Captain of the Swiss national team, a USPA AFF Instructor Evaluator and constultant to the Swiss Army for military operations ..

Neil decided on a double tuck front loop somethingy .. under the watchful eye of his instructor Luci B . Did you know that Luci is an AFF instructor evaluator and works part time for us to decide who can teach AFF for the USPA in Europe ? . Shes also a coaching rating director and gold medal holder from the 2005 nationals in Target Skysports UK. she was originally working in Netheravon before moving to the Freefall Uni nearly three years ago.

Anton too decided on the front roll double tuck… Ulli looks likes hes trying to catch him ..no ?

Ulli who started jumping in 1984 is a firm favourite with the students. Hes a BASE jump instructor , qualified rigger with over a 1000 AFF graduates in the last five years alone.

Danny tracks at Mach 4.5 towards Ocaña.

New Accomodations

Apartment
We are also pleased to announce we have secured an apartment in Aranjuez close to the main district. Its very nice , has Internet access .. is next door the to gym and pool and within walking distance of Cheers the ” Skydivers Bar ” . You will not be living with the staff of the school in their homes.

Aparthotels

Were also finalizing the arrangments on what in Spain are known as aparthotels where you rent half an apartment which is private from the other half with the exception of a shared kitchen . These will start at 60 euros per night per half with two bedrooms and four beds and are ideal for groups.

Our dropzone Hotel

We have also negotiated a deal with the hotel on the dropzone. For 25 euros per night you get your own private ensuite room ( modern air conditioned ) , coffee and croissants in the morning and a main meal during the day. This is not for everybody as the dropzone is ( a real ) 10 minutes from the city and can be quite enough at night , but may well suit some people who would prefer a quite evening. This hotel has a bar downstairs and 25 metre pool outside your window.

March 2006

Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days I have been in the UK and Germany meeting with various associated dropzones. Welcome to Gareth Couldrey who joins us to complete his formaion skydiving course, he spent today solo jumping in order to get ” his knees in the breeze ” or fluid again in freefall before starting his course.

Speaking of formation skydiving Sylvan has been doing great on his course and is pulling of some pretty spectacular moves so his 4way later today should be very interesting.

His coach for this programme is Luci Boella.

He is pictured here sleeping ( which he always seems to manage between jumps ) in one of our training rooms.

Welcome to Martin May who joins us on for his AFF course. Martin is a ” business man ” from the UK and will spend the next two weeks with us. Obviously pretty keen Martin completed his ground school yesterday and first two jumps so far today. He has also block booked 25 solos to take advantage of our special rates for block booking. His coach is ulli.

Credit Card Payments

We are pleased to announce we have finalized arrangments for credit card facilities for all course payments. Your rights to a refund are not effected in any way. Should you not jump for any reason , or not compete your course credit card payments also can be reversed onsite.

Richard McConnell has cancelled his onward trip to Perris Valley and decided to spend the next month jumping with us instead:) He is enjoying his time with us and is taking full advantage of the coaching we offer. He has block booked 100 skydives again taking advantage of the special rates and in addition has purchased 50 coaching jumps with our Freefly coach. He will be working towards the BPA FF2 qualification aswell as perfecting his technique in Birdman.

Welcome back Priscila who trained with us last year. Priscila is an Air Hostess and drops in when she has stop overs in Madrid Airport to squeeze in a few jumps. She works with BA and today flew on the London Gatwick to Madrid route. Currently there are offers to Madrid Airport for as litte as forty pounds return for bookings made with BA and easyjet before the end of the month.

AFF Instuctors course.

We are also pleased to announce that we will be running an AFF Instructors course in Mid June. We will soon post dates of our pre courses. Two of our staff Andy G and Luci B are AFF evelautors and for those interested in pre training or attending the coach course in advance we are happy to cater for your needs. Already we have local people subscribed to the course , so you can be sure it will go ahead. Dates will be posted in the next 24 hours once confirmed.

Welcome also to Nicholas Selmes who is here to do his AFF course. His instructor is Timothy Boyd. Ground school is already finished and Nicholas got on an evening flight to complete his level one .

Welcome also to Mike from Euphoria who visits from Seville.

Red Sky at night Sailors delight…see you tommorrow 🙂

14th March 2006

Woo Hoo Fantastic!!! Im sorry I have not been updating more often. Only back from Berlin where access was limited I have spent the last two days working on the dropzone as we are quite busy. For us all at the Freefall Uni this has been a perfect few days. The atmosphere with people jumping and learning is incredible. There are plenty of photos for you to see .

Thats me second from the right. To my left is Paul McMahon or ” Da Grasshopper” who arrived in unexpectedly. Paul is a the Safey officer for the Parachute Assocation of Ireland and keen jumper, skydiving instructor and Flight Instructor. He also operates ” Grasshopper 1 ” which is the Irish Parachutes club own SAR or Search and rescue flight for any mains which might drift into the ” bog ” beside the IPC.

Here is Paul taking Javier for a Tandem .. Paul .. might i suggest closing your mouth when you have a cameraman with you 🙂

For anybody in the IPC ask Paul for a copy of “Summer 2000”..its a must see !

This is most of us but not all who have been carving the Skies of Ocana in the last few days. This was taken Today Tuesday ( Ill try to keep the photos in order for you )

A nice number and a great bunch of people who right now are probably living it large in Cheers ( 11:40pm as I type ). Ill introduce you to many in this bulletin.

Im sure there are bigger ” crowd photos ” knocking around but I know everybody in this one especially our students. For us this is the pefect size to be.

This is Mark Zagorski a part time police constable from the UK who joined us for our introduction to skydiving course. So far he has done three skydives and we are encouraging him onwards to finish the AFF course 🙂

He is pictured here in one of our training rooms doing his 1:1 ground school with Andy Gregory his instructor.

Ready to Rock! I snapped this one just before they took of for the level one jump.

I sat in on the debrief and Mark did fab with a great body position with both instructors moving down to one handed grips on both sides as Mark was so stable.

Martin May did great on his course with his personal trainer Ulli Bulli . He went on over the past two days to finish his AFF course and is now skydiving solo.

Yup Martin Aces High indeed ! Its been a pleasure looking after you ..heres to some more rocking solos!

Here is Miki who joins us for some fun jumps ( foreground ) from the UK. Miki thanks for making us your first choice in Spain and indeed when it comes to skydiving abroad. We appreciate it.

Here is Mikey ” Its all good Carpenter ” getting ready to do another jump with Nils Wuerdinger who is visiting from Frankfurt. Nils and Mikey have been very happy with our dropzone and did five or so coached jumps today. Mike is based in Seville but like most schools from within Spain and the UK is welcome to take people to our dropzone for training. There are some external schools coming over the next few weeks so if you would like to train your students at our facility its no problem , please call to have us assist you.

Just another brick in the wall? Hardly this is our graduates wall from 2006 . This is in one of our three training rooms on the DZ. Each person who comes on our courses is asked to autograph their picture and add a comment. some of the comments make for interesting reading..

Probably nice for i think for students to arrive and see that they are in a school with a proud heritage brimming with experience.

The Chilli peppers were playing on the PA as i took this photo. A nice moment for the people you see. Paul had just done a jump as had Javier ( foreground – Tandem ) Louis and Richard were soaking up the rays between loads as each individual group ( usually one student and one instructor ) worked away on their next jump. The porter was also on another climb. We flew back to back pretty much steady for the last few days to make sure everybody got the jumps they wanted.

Adding to our mid week numbers are more and more jumpers from Madrid who are choosing the FFU Ocaña and finding partners to jump with. Angel Lopez pictured here was never refused in his requests to jump at least once every 40 minutes. He had a long stop for lunch but still easily completed 8 jumps today.

Angel , Muchas gracias y mi placir!

Time to practice the exit ..” no where do i go again ” . A Sillouhette ( not so sure of the spelling but who cares ) of Luci Boella , Sylvan , Juan Ventura and Tim on the Porter mock door practicing for Sylvans four way. Sylvan was a bit apprehensive before going up wondering if he would manage to rember everything for his first four way ( See the FS section ).. he need not have worried. He racked up 9 points and Luci told me that when he passed six and realised at about 9k that he had done it he broken into the biggest, broadest smile. Sylvan Well done . Sadly for the world of formation skydiving Sylvan has moved straight onto freefly and will work next with Louis 🙂

The atmosphere in the landing area is always good and especially so on the sunset load , first solos or the completion for some , but for everybody a big or small achievement..

Luci looks well chuffed as does Sylvan. Everybody here gets a buzz out of what they do..everybody .. me included i quite enjoy manifest although it was odd asking David McGill who booked an AFF course today to ” hold ” as i put a load on a boarding call ..

Ok ” da papparazi ” out of the way Sylvan is off in to share in some beers with his fellows . It is a tradition to purchase your fellow skydivers beers when you pass a milestone such as graduating an AFF course or in Sylvan case an FS course .

Also back to us for his second holiday in Ocaña is Shane Daniels , who trained with us a year ago. On his last trip he completed the FS1 programme with Andy Guler and this time is taking some extra coaching with Andy once again. It was nice to see him jumping with Gareth Couldrey who graduated his FS1 this morning also.

This is Gareth who finished his FS1. He jumps in Cark in the North West of the UK having trained with us in November. He told me he was very impressed with his instruction and also commented that he say a big improvment in the dropzone ( we have made a lot of structural changes with layout etc. ) since he trained. We dont see the changes so much as we make them day by day but it was nice to have the feedback.

This is Miguel on the left he is a fireman from Madrid and is doing a few hours of the course every day. He is jumping 1:1 with Hristo his Spanish Instructor.

Miguel did two jumps today before heading off to work for the afternoon and will probably be back tommorrow to do a few more.

Here is Ramon , Miguels colleague who is also doing his AFF course. His instructor is Carlos ..or Jill if your watching ” Carloossss ” 🙂

Here he is on his level three. We use the one high one low system. On the level three the main instructor goes slightly above the student and the secondary goes slightly low.

Thus if you change your position and slow down you end up moving up into your instrutors hands and vica versa.

For Ramon this is his first time in freefall without his instructors holding him . As we say in Spanish ( ok my broken Spanish ) ” Que Guay ..how cool !

Carlos on the left has 3000+ jumps and only does AFF ( he would not like to do tandems and is not rated ) , Juan Ventura on the right has 15,000+ with 5000 of those jumps as an AFF Instructor.. Ramon of course is completing his third..in good hands 🙂

This is peter , a parachute packer and cameran who found himself in front of the camera on head down dive. He is ” flying ” on his head descending here at about 200 miles per hour ,, but even the speed doesnt seem to wipe the smile of his face.

This is Nick Selmes , he is loving it i tell you! He finished his AFF course today in style. I shook his hand and asked him he soon he would ” like to go ” . Very enthusiasticly he replied as soon as possible.. No bother he was climbing to 13K twenty minutes later. He did another three solos before I managed to snap a picture of him in the landing area on the sunset load.

He is considering doing our FS1 course next as he is here for some time yet.

This is Christian Bengel who is here from Frankfurt. Willkomen and enjoy your skydives with us.

Here is a photo of Anton who completed his AFF course , all his consols and of course the CH1 course. Once your finished your consols you can jump in shorts if you like ( its warm enough now ) subject to some conditions and a briefing which we will give you. ( Its a bit different and also we want to make sure everything is well tucked and tied in )

Anton , good to have you here and look forward to seeing you back soon. This is photos here is from another jump.

Terminal velocity…

Our plane is slowly being covered inside with stickers from visiting jumpers and teams. I found this one and thought it was well funny. For those who havent jumped the change in pressure outside your body leads to a desire to ..ok you get it. Its generally considered bad manners ..to relax too much.. so best to wait till we open the door 🙂

This is Julian who has arrived to do the base course with Ulli. Julian has about 500 skydives and jumps in Cark in the UK so it was nice to see that he met friends of his on the dropzone that he was not aware were here.. just bumped into them.

So sorry I have not covered everybody , i was busy doing other things to include manifesting , moving around to make sure all parts of the DZ were ticking over and generally didnt want to disturb people too much poking cameras in their face. There are new faces with us both for freelfying and also to do our AFF courses. I hope to post more photos tommorrow but im going to go back to the DZ ( my design machine is in Madrid some 40 minutes away ). I didnt take the camera to cheers to ” shoot the night life ” , perhaps im a dissapointment to the Paparazzi 🙂 When I left people were settling into ” Crosswinds on the plasma screen and a few well earned beers.

So as they say… red sky at night .. See you soon.

We have more references to post on in our comments section and i hope to get them online tommororow. Its late and time for a Steak 🙂

This news report has been brought to you by David.

Wednesday March 15th – Morning .

First flight of the ground at 930am . Sweet morning and already people are in shorts and t shirts. -im on to the DZ for another day of fuunnn! Wayne Pascoe have a good trip and we will see you later on. Andy Gregory will be your instuctor 🙂 For anybody who would like to come on any of our courses Samantha is manning the phones today and Ill be working to bring you the news on and off as we get lots of loads on the DZ 🙂 However as we have lots on ,Paparazzi ( or as Sylvan says ” Pepperazzi” ) duties will be secondary to most other things.

This news report has been brought to you by David.

Ok me again 🙂 I didnt get to connect to the web today. It was a smooth day on the DZ and I took advantage to get some flying time up ( on the porter ) and just chill. The morning started slow with people having a late night in Cheers last night however at 11am we going in earnest and the back to backs begun 🙂 Here are some snaps from today.

Here is one of our offices with Paul and Javier reviewing photos and video on an editing PC. The cameraman is Peter ( in the white suit ), a talent already and I believe sure to figure on the international scene soon. He arrived to us with few jumps two years ago and started work as a packer. He jumped and jumps whenever he can be it funjump or video. He is now DA MAN to have taking your picture or doing video and his rates are excellent.

This is Noah Goodman , he is here to learn to skydive with us and is just loving the experience. He was nervous to start with ( actually who isnt ? ) but under the guidance of Luci is doing just great. He came down of his last jump and said ” i got it , i know the feeling your talking about ” .. it was his best jump to date.

Martin is rocking on in style. He is working on his accuracy and perfecting his flare or braking technique when landing . Seeing him come in from the landing area each tome is rewarding as his smiles are getting bigger and bigger ” That was Tippy toe Dave ” . Martin says hi to all the folks back home and says he will be home for a while before coming back in April.

This is Gareth getting ready for a 4 way with Andy Lucy and Tim. He left this afternoon and how nice it was to say goodbye knowing that he will be back soon for some more advanced FS coaching with Andy of the Swiss team.

Gareth everybodies pleasure having you here with us .. dont leave it too long.

I spend a lot of time just walking in circles ..yes really! I like to see where people need help and what or who might need attention. Sometimes I have the camera with me. Here is Tim working with MArtin showing him how to fill in his log book. A detailed log at this stage of your skydiving career is very important , its suggested amongst other things you write down things you liked about your last jump and things you would like to improve.

Tim gave me some stills from his own camera today of his course with Nick ( who did about five jumps today.. he stopped jumping for a while to kindly give Gareth a lift to the airport ) . The style of videoing your course is very personal and here I guess Tim and Nick are sharing a joke on the way up to altitude.

Maybe for the world of FS there is hope tha Sylvan will stay in it. He spent his day working with Shane and Andy guler who was coaching them both. I saw some of the videos of the jumps and Shane and Sylvan seem to progress well. I overheard Andy talking about emotion on exit which makes sense. Often its noise in our heads ( ” will i do it right ” ) that gets in the way of a really smooth exit.

I took some time in the air also differently. Im learning to fly and went up with Edward to watch him pilot the Porter. I could not resist taking the camera with me and took some pictures. Here the flight was a mixture of students and Freefliers .. Christian in the middle is the jumper you see who is progressing really well. He always seem to have a smile on his face whenever I bump into him . He asked where were all the photos going so i told him to check this page out when he got home. He will be with us untill Friday.

This is Nick, he struck a pose just before heading off for another dive.

In the back is Christo who is training Luis ( who you cant see in this photo ) from Madrid.

Remember that four way with Gareth , well here it is. you can see them all heading off. It did not come out perfectly , but im not a four way Guru so wont comment . The dive went well with ten or more points so all is well that ends well.

Handshakes ! You will love them and perhaps be daunted a bit as you get used to the different ones. This one I call ” ET phone home ” . It is customary for everybody to shake hands with each other in various manners on the 2 minute call ( the pilots gives you notice before asking you to leave his plane ) . This is Martin.

Thats all for today. It was about 25 degrees and I ended up tanned being out and about quite a bit . The sky was nice , so we look forward to another day of leppin from perfectly good aeroplanes tommorrow. 🙂 Tommorrow another member of the team will post the news.
.

Thursday March 16th

Ok its my turn for the news updates today. My name is Louis Harwood, I run the freefly school here at the freefall university, you see me here on the right with my student Richard McConnell.

Richard is her for another two weeks after cancelling his trip to Perris
Valley. He is progresing well on his route to headdown and is taking
advantage of the hot Spanish sun. I’m already looking forward to seeing
him and his friend here again in July.

Also joining us all the way from New Zealand is James McArthur. He’s an old friend of my team mate David Downham. Just popping in for a few days on his travels he joins the growing scene of freefliers at the freefall university in Ocana. I managed to get a few fun jumps in with James today…great fun.

James usually jumps at Skydive Auckland (Mercer) in New Zealand but is currently backpacking around europe.

At last I get to meet the famous Wayne Pascoe! Ive heard so much about you over the past few weeks, its great to finally meet you. Wayne kept in constant contact with the staff here about his course, travel arangements, accomodation as well obtaining some prescription goggles for him to use during the course.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy your AFF course Wayne…I look forward to seeing the DVD of your jumps.

Meanwhile in the FS world Shane and Sylvan are busy honing their skills on 2 way skydives no that they are both FS1 skydivers.

Here you can see Shane and Sylvan practicing their exit on the aircraft mockup.

Being on a load with Sylvan is a must for anyone with a sense of humour…Mui Bien Si Si Sylvan, looking forward to doing some freeflying with you!

Cracking on through the AFF levels is Noah, now on level 6 he’s loving it and cant wait to finish the course tomorrow so he can jump solo.

Every time I see Noah after a skydive he’s wearing the biggest smile you could imagine, its great to see!

Julian has finished the ground school with his BASE instructor Ulli and have now gone to complete the first few BASE jumps from a bridge.

Julian seemed remarkebly calm before he left, Iim looking forward to seeing his face on the video, i’m sure he’ll love it…as long as he’ll still come on some tracking dives with me over the summer.

Me and Richard have just landed after a great Head Down coached jump. Your coming along nicely my young padawan learner! Richard has also been doing some fun jumps with some of my team mates today…I get the feeeling he’s enjoying it here :).

Nick has just landed from another jump…Ive lost count how many times ive seen him walk to the plane today.

He’s one of the most chilled out AFF students ive seen yet, its a pleasure to be with him on the plane.

The dropzone has an excellent atmosphere today, theres a sense of comraderie between the AFF student, FS students, Freefly students and the Spanish fun jumpers. We all had a big lunch mid day and got straight back into jumping managing to squeeze one last load in for the hardcore jumpers just before sunset.

Wayne managed to complete his ground school as well as AFF level 1 and 2. Waynes wife Cheryl has been avidly videoing his landings and ground school…maybe she wants to join the fun also?

All in all a good day at the freefall university. Hot weather, clear skies and smiles all round. Everyone’s had a busy day today and you can tell by the slightly lower population of the local skydivers bar, I think they’re all tired and want to prepare themselves for another busy day of jumping.

Stay tuned for more tales of the jumpaholics and the freefall university!

Sunday March 18th

We were joined yesterday also by Leigh Browne who completed his ground school with Tim Boyd and did five levels of his AFF. Leigh is a manager with Sainsburys and i found him sitting queitly watching the sunset load embark reflecting. Its hard for people watching to get an impression on high skydiving truely touches you so it was no surprise to see Leigh contemplating all that he had done. He told me ” how can something be so scary and so amazing at the same time ” .. thats skydiving. I snapped this picture of Leigh with Tim.

Noah only has one more jump to go and Wayne is doing great. He and Cheryl took of to Madrid for the day.

Julian did great on his first BASE and told me that ” it was all over very quickly ” . He did a pilot chute assist from a bridge , had 15 seconds under canopy and had a tippy toe landing. He left to do some more jumping this afternoon and has been really pleased with his experience. We look forward also to recieving Alun up from Seville on the BASE course and say hi to Lee Cootes who we hear good things about ( Lee trained with us on the BASE course last month.

I had a good chat with Nils today and am glad that he has had a good time with us . He has applied for a job as a packer with us as he reckons it would be a good experience to work here during the summer. Nils we hope that you do indeed come to work with us.

Mark Zagorski ! I told you 🙂 Mark was not long home when we received an email asking to come back to finish the rest of the course. Mark will be back in May. Cool !

March News 2006 part two

Welcome to the second page of the news bulletin page for Freefall University Madrid.
Were having a cracking time , everybody is jumping learning and enjoying every day. Average temperatures are early 20s and it wont get much hotter.

25th March 2006

Hi, Im Luci Boella . I am in charge of the UK FS school for people who would like to learn to skydive with others ( BPA FS1 ). This is me with two of our students Jim and Stephen O Brien from Chatteris in the UK. Jim trained with us at the Freefall Uni two years ago and has finally got around to doing the formation skydiving course. Both are doing great , learning loads and managing to squeeze a few ” pints ” in at night in Aranjuez also.

This is Samuel he started his AFF a few days ago and is working with Ulli Bulli . He is from Bath . He is no stranger to adventure having been one of the youngest people ( and the only person I know ) to climb Mount Everest.

In the background is Louis and Pete preparing for another coached dive in freefly.

Pete is a regular at the dz and generally comes out from the UK for a long weekend of jumping. Easyjet have some great prices to Madrid from five main UK airports and were a stones throw from Madrid.

By the way Louis your new suits from Boogieman are just ace.

Paula snapped this picture of me and Jim in the training room during a debrief. You can see our bays which have TV , DVD and video recorders. Also in the photo is Gary Walker who is here for ten days of jumping . Ill be doing the formation skydiving course with him when he has settled in a bit . Gary hasnt jumped in a while but trained with us on the AFF course last year here in Ocaña.

From the office window I snapped this one of Danillo swooping who is the resident canopy coach. Only highly experienced jumpers are allowed to land in the middle of the campus. Given Danny has held several national titles im sure hell not get in trouble.

Danillo is an AFF Instructor also with five thousand jumps . He is training Ellis who is in the British Army. Ellis started his AFF course with us yesterday and is now on level four.

This is Paula one of oiur our BASE and birdman instructors. ( Shes sporting her new braids which look real funky in freefal ) Claire is an experienced skydiver from the UK on holidays with us ( left ) and on the right is Christine Knowles from the silver stars DZ . Christine trained with us about six weeks ago and has come back for another holiday.

Hi im Ulli, sometimes called the ” doctor ” .. i have no iea why 🙂 This is Lee one of my BASE students . After jumping finished we took off to do some night base. Lee did great and i loved the jump. We have some good sites and i have just found another one..

Im also an AFF instructor in the Freefall University and have just finished training Samuel who did amazingly well on his course.

Here are some scenes from his training .

Skydiving is good for you ! You know you want to ! Here we are getting ready for level four. Mr Everest had no problems at all.

.

Here is Shane getting ready for level seven.

Thumbs up Shane you just did your level seven enjoy your solo skydiving 🙂

Meet Jelly ! But be careful when you enter the school she will probably lick you to death!

Hi , Im Andy and Im an AFF Instructor and Tandem Master at the Freefall Uni . We looked after a group of lads down from Bristol for a stag weekend who wanted to see what skydiving was all about ..they all did a tandem despite nursing some wicked hangovers.

Im going to train Richard who joins us to learn to skydive. Richard had never jumped before but is looking forward to getting stuck in to the course having arrived this morning and completed his ground school this afternoon.

Monday 26th

David here,, some people call me … oh well , perhaps not..:)

I was on the dz today and like a tit left my pics behind me , Ill add them in tommorrow at some point but heres a brief run down of our day.

It was goodbye to Christine today , but not before she reached the impressive total of 28 jumps. She has her packing cert complete and in addition most of her CH1. She will take up her jumping now in South Cerney in the UK.

We were joined by Joni Mallet to learn to skydive , Ulli picker her up in the airport and got straight into her ground school. She also made her level on skydive this evening and did great. Its not often the secondary instructor comes round the front to make faces at somebody on their first skydive but thats pretty much what Luci did ..Joni is a pro AFF student 🙂

Jim O Brien ! Good on ya ! The Four way formation skydive was so neat we could see them clearly from the ground clearly turning points. Jim is now qualified to skydive with other people and i last saw him passing round the celebratory crate of beer. Brendan took the day off and should be back in action tommorrow.
Jim commented to me that he was loving our DZ (thank you ) and that he was surprised that he got it done so quickly. Luci as you saw was his coach.

Simon Palacio from the US joined us late in the afternoon today also to take some freefly training with Louis ( he did three jumps back to back ) and is working on movement head down. For Simon this really is a training holiday as he jumping to the max for the most part of the day and then attending the BASE course in the evenings. Simon has a dz patch collection a buy scout would kill for , saw many of my favourites in there from the US , so glad FFU Ocaña will be on there too! Simon will be here for the week.

Congratulations to Lee Armstrong who completed his CAT 10 and also CH1. He will be jumping with us tommorrow and then will continue to jump in Hib or Langar in the UK. A day of jumping hard for Lee who clocked up 8 skydives today. He told me ” im just being” greedy.

Tuesday the 27th

Hi ho , hi ho..its back to back we go.. we jump all day , get lots of play ..and the night life aint bad either..

Simon Palacio has been learning some fancy tricks under the tuition of Louis ..carving ,docking, chase dives. With four sets of gear between them they have been jumping to the max often landing of one load and getting straight onto the other. Talk to us about your BPA FF2 today.

Simon only stopped the freefly fun to do some seven cell jumps on the canopy he will use for his first BASE jumps tommorrow.

Monkey man exit.. for Simon on his base jumping course hop and pop. We put the base canopies packed for terminal in a main container for the hop pops ( low jumps ) . These jumps are for our BASE jumping students to develop their accuracy with those that they will use on their jumps. Seven cell canopies have a different characteristic to the more common 9 cell canopies that people use.

Luci is now doing some coaching with Ellis who has graduated his AFF.

Here you see Mr ” Go Hard ” Gary Walker who has been working on the mantis position as you can see here and flying with one of our new Aerodyne rigs.

Heres Kevin with Andy getting ready for the level seven (rock and ) roll.

Kevin Ilsley…sweet. Well done in graduating your AFF course . Here is Kevin with Andy Gregory just out of the debfrief.

AFF in 24 hours !
Joni the Freefall Addict has finished in no time at all and is seen here doing the roll out for her unstable exit.

I think at this stage Joni is just showing off to the camera …. Perfect body position , perfect level seven !

Happy Sunny Days ! Well done Joni , now you have the next week to skydive with us , do your CH1 and packing 🙂

The Forecast is great. Talk to us about the likely temperatures in this part of the country for your holidays.

Jim has been taking advantage of his BPA FS1 rating to jump with others. He did some jumps with Claire a fun jumper from the UK. Claire did eight jumps between this morning and this afternoon when she had to go back to the UK. Claire jumps in Langar ( Nottingham ) when at home.

We said goodbye to Lee today also managed eight skydives before catching his flight home.

Would you like to skydive in Spain? We have some availability in April ( second and third week ) and May for all courses , AFF, FS1 Birdman , BASE and of course freefly..

this update has been brought to you by David. Catch you tommorrow.

Wednesday 28th

Another fab day and were still jumping. We have seen wingsuits , freefly and formation skydiving students in action aswell as our AFF graduates clocking up the solos. Everbody has done at least five jumps with some doing up to ten.

Brendan has graduated his BPA FS1 course and did some two way with Jim O Brian before moving onto more advanced coaching with Luci. Jim and Brendan went through some 3 way scrambles with Luci. She has also invented a new random called the ” motorbike ” . For details of our FS1 formation skydiving courses click here

The two photos on the left are from Brendans four way. Hes at the top on the exit.

Ellis
has also continued coaching with Luci and Kevin has been jumping solo to get his concolidation jumps finished.

Louis has been jumping with Simon Palacio amost of the day with back to back loads being the norm and then a stop for debriefs.

Here is a photo of Luci and Ulli on the sunset load freeflying together. This two way was photographed by Paula Silva our newest and hottest cameraflyer.

Joni has had five solo jumps today. She was taking it easy having finished her AFF so quickly.

She is also working on her CH1 canopy rating.

Simon .. would you like to try any of our other courses ? Simon is doing BASE, freefly and decided to take the Birdman course also. He covered 2.5 miles or 4 kilometers on this flight as verified by the planes GPS system which flew as part of the formation.

Sylvan one of our resident skydivers has also decided to get into the freefly act and has now commenced freefly coaching having purchased a block of jumps with Louis. Mr Sylvan as many will know is an aff graduate of ours who decided to move to the dropzone to jump full time.

This is from yesterday. Its Jims four way qualification dive having completed Luci´s course.

Kevin also got a ton of solos done today and is also completing his CH1 course.

Thursday the 29th of March.

Jim and Brendan two friends who completed our formation skydiving course are pictured here jumping together. At the beginning of the week this was not possible for both of them. Well done guys!

Kevin is seen here on another solo skydive. He is “locked on ” to his altimeter. Thats all of Kevins consol jumps done now also and everything else is just for fun!

when he landed of his last jump he says that its amazing the difference in how confident you feel after doing the first ten solos, your confidence already high is amazing.

Tracking to the max. John Louis and Edward do some back tracking.

Come Fly with me !!

Louis has some slots for coaching open in April if you would like to improve your freefly skills or work on the BPA FF1 or FF2 qualification.

Meanwhile Scotty another of our graduates who now lives at the dropzone trys out flying on his back. He is jumping one of our Mirage G3 containers which have Spectre Mains.

Welcome back to Louis Morell who joined us today to do some skydiving and complete his CH1 canopy course ( free course ) . He did five skydives and is almost finished the course. Louis is our AFF graduate from December who has chosen to come back to us.

Birdmen over FFU Ocana !

Here some of our guys get ready to head of another skydive.

Well Sylvan . what a face of concentration! Here you see him getting ready to head off on another freefly coaching dive with Louis. Sylvan recently purchased himself a set of gear through our shop a Mirage G3.

7th April

Another Day at the drozpone and all our students are graudated heres Robert getting ready for another Solo…enjoy!

Edward, one of our pilots meanwhile cant seem to get enough of the dz. Hes on ” holiday ” from flying and in the most unusual of body positions is spending his time jumping from Daniellas porter !

Robert comes in for a tippy toe landing in the student landing area which is grassed. There are areas that are not grassed also , and these are even softer ( we plough them to keep them that way ) so first jump students prefer to land in the non grassed section .

Nick….what a great freefall Grin you have there ! Nick is loving hte solo skydives !

Welcome to Ralf Taner who joined us after a long lay off from the sport. We put him through a ground and air refresh and now hes jumping solo again and soon to complete our formation skydiving course .

Welcome to Georgia from Leeds who joins us for an introduction to skydiving weekend. You can tailor the package to your needs completing a tandem + AFF level one as or a tandem on its own. Georgia has decided to go on and do the full course!

Packing like a PRO! Nick who passed his packing test earlier in the week is now pro packing his own gear. The basic test is in flat packing but once youve done this if you want to go onto learn the more common method of pro packing which in most cases is easier we are happy to teach you. ( Be advised however that many centres in the UK prefer you to flat pack if your packing rental gear ).

Hamish who is a barrister from London came on our intro package for the weekend and has was instantly hooked , hell be back in a few days to get stuck into the full AFF course also .

Remember we talked about a new plane , well were getting two of them! We will be the proud owners of a -34 porter which will rocket you up to altitude and also a -27 will be leased for tandems at the weekend. Both planes will fly with a mimimum of five and a max of nine. Now getting the jumps you want is going to be even easier..

All aboard! Another full Freefall Uni load takes to the skies. Edward is telling us the climb rate on the new -27 engine is unreal with a full cycle to 13,500ft taking fifteen minutes. We wonder what our -34 engined aircraft is going to be like.

Check out Edward this is about ten seconds after exit.

All our students have graduates now and are jumping solo . Here is a picture of Federico from Lisbon on his level two.

Here is Gina after another solo! Gina has done really well on the course. She had some static line ( Raps ) before arrriving from Berlin but had become frustrated with the slow progression that this system can offer as a method to learn to skydive.
